The event offers races for all levels of competition, including a 10 mile run, a 5K run and a 2 mile fun walk for the entire family. The race is endorsed by the Chicago Area Runners Association (CARA).

Packet pick-up will be moved to Sunday, May 29th from 10am – 4pm under a large tent-ed area in the Civic Center Parking Lot. The packet pick-up event will include musical entertainment, race-related vendors and a small “taste of Elgin”
• An “elite coral” will allow the top 10 woman and the top 10 males from last year’s race to start at the beginning by the start line.
• Weather permitting, the awards ceremony will be moved outside underneath a large tent as part of a post-race party.
• Live entertainment will be placed along the race route.
The race, which historically draws over 2,000 runners, has a loyal following of participants and volunteers, as well as on-lookers who line the neighborhood streets to cheer on the runners. Run-ners look forward to a challenging course, which begins in the Center City area, and takes them through beautiful historic neighborhoods, as well as the winding hills and ravines of Trout Park Fen and Lords Park.
The fee for the 10 mile or 5K race is $35.00 in advance. On-line registration is available until May 28 at www.cityofelgin.org/foxtrot. Applicants unable to register on-line can call for an ap-plication to be mailed or faxed. Completed applications can be mailed in, faxed or dropped off
at the City Hall, 150 Dexter Court no later than May 25th, payable with a check or credit card. On-line registration ends May 27th. Race day registration will be $45.00 and will be available from 6:15 a.m. -7:30 a.m.
In addition to the competitive races, a Family Fun Walk will be offered. This 2 mile walk is a great opportunity for the whole family to walk together to help raise money for any of the partic-ipating charities. The fee for the 2 mile fun walk is $30 per family of 4 or $10 per individual. Registration fees for the Family Fun Walk are the same for early registration or on the event day. City of Elgin Parks & Recreation Youth Scholarship Fund, More information
The Elgin Valley Fox Trot event is the largest single fundraiser for the Elgin Parks and Recrea-tion Department Youth Scholarship Fund. The fund was established in 1993 to assist economi-cally challenged families in Elgin. The Scholarship Fund subsidizes the registration fee to any recreation program for youth 17 years old or younger, up to $75 per year.
Community Crisis Center
The Community Crisis Center, located in Elgin, Illinois, was founded in 1975 by a group of ded-icated volunteers to help those in crisis due to domestic violence, sexual assault, or economic circumstances. We offer the following services: a 24-hour crisis hotline and information and re-ferral; emergency shelter; individual and group counseling; medical, legal and welfare advocacy; emergency assistance with food, clothing, rent and utilities; and transitional housing. 6,275 indi-viduals, including 593 children, received services in FY 2008. Our staff worked with 1,539 vic-tims of domestic violence and 372 child witnesses to domestic violence. We provided 11,325 nights of emergency shelter to 308 women and 295 children. Except for our Batterer Intervention program, all services are provided at no cost to our clients.
Boys and Girls Club
The Boys & Girls Club of Elgin offers after-school and summer programming to our communi-ty’s at risk youth. These life changing programs focus on impact in the areas of: Academic Suc-cess, Healthy Lifestyles and Good Character & Citizenship.
It is the mission of the Boys & Girls Club of Elgin to enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring responsible citizens. In 2009, we served over 1,400 children at our 4 locations.
YWCA
For 107 years programs at the YWCA have evolved to reflect the changing needs of women and families in the community-helping to build stronger neighborhoods. The overall goals and ob-jectives are expressed in our local mission “Creating Opportunities for Woman and Families”. The YWCA Elgin strives to create opportunities for women’s growth, leadership in order to attain a common vision of peace, justice, freedom and dignity for all people while eliminating racism, which is a driving force for YWCA USA.
United Way- Dolly Parton Imagination Library
Thanks to the generous support of JP Morgan Chase Foundation, Provena Saint Joseph Hospital, and Elgin Township, the United Way of Elgin and the Education Impact Council present the first free-book program for Elgin’s children- Dolly Parton Imagination Station. Other community partners, such as Gail Borden Public Library, Elgin Day Care, U-46 Parents as Teachers, Greater Elgin Family Care Center, Head Start, Well Child Center, WIC Program, VNA of Fox Valley, Kane County Health Department, Kane County’s Clerks Office, Elgin Township, and the Elgin Police Department’s Residents Officers have helped the United Way enroll over 2,400 children. A few details about the program:
All children from birth to just under five years of age who live in Elgin, South Elgin, Hampshire, Pingree Grove, Burlington or Lafox are eligible to participate in the book program, at no cost to them, regardless of family income.
Books will be sent out to participating children once a month until they reach five years of age. Each book is age appropriate. The collection of books includes such titles as The Little Engine That Could, The Poky Little Puppy, The Tale of Peter Rabbit, Favorite Finger Rhymes, Little Cloud, The Owl and The Pussycat, and The Gingerbread Boy.
