U-46 Radio Club Produces Unique Broadcast about the Latino Film Festival

Elgin – Students in Elgin High School’s radio club had an exciting opportunity to cover the Latino Film Festival in Elgin April 10 – 13, 2014.  The unique student broadcast features interviews with the mayor of Elgin, directors and actors from the featured films, the consul of Argentina, and the founder of the Latino Film Festival in Chicago.  Students interviewed guests for both their English and Spanish broadcasts.

“It was a great experience.  I interviewed a director of a featured film at the festival and I also met the mayor.  My favorite part was staying to watch the movies; I could really relate to them,” said Karina Blanco, Elgin High School freshman.

The broadcast about the Latino Film Festival will air Friday, April 25.  The English broadcast will air at 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. and the Spanish broadcast will air at 7:30 a.m. and 7:30 p.m.  Jackie Mendez, an Elgin High School sophomore, edited the radio broadcast.

“We were the only high school covering the event and the students did an amazing job,” said Juan Fernandez, Elgin High School’s Radio Club Sponsor, “This is an experience they will never forget.”

Members of the Elgin High School radio club had the option to attend the event over four days.  Several students attended the kick-off event April 10.

“I joined the radio club because I was really interested in music.  Now that I have experience interviewing different people I realized this is something I really want to do,” said Elgin High School Junior, Luis Munoz.
